The manager of the Unique Thrift Store, 3748 N. Elston Ave reported that an employee found a hand grenade in a donation pile at about 1:35pm Friday May 26 according to 17th District police.
The store manager reported that after an employee discovered an item suspected to be a hand grenade in a donation pile at the store he called the police and that when he handed the grenade to an officer the officer called the Bomb and Arson Unit, according to police. Officers reported that the Bomb and Arson Unit recovered the grenade and the unit would dispose of the the grenade, police said. According to police, the grenade was a live grenade.
